Description

Sally Strawson is a Botanical Watercolour Artist living in North Lincolnshire. After studying at Doncaster College of Art and Kingston Polytechnic, London and gaining a BA (Hons) degree in 3D Interior Design she worked as a commercial and domestic interior designer in London and Yorkshire.

It was after moving to the Lincolnshire countryside and developing a passion for plants and the garden that Sally was inspired to combine these with her skills of observational drawing and love of colour, textures, detail and design. She has studied botanical art courses with Anne Marie Evans and Valerie Oxley and is a member of The Florilegium Society at Sheffield Botanical Gardens. In 2013 Sally was invited to become an artist member of The Florilegium Society at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney, Australia.

Sally’s work has been exhibited in galleries in the UK and Internationally, including The Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Pittsburgh, USA, The Ursus Gallery, New York, The Garden Museum, London and Lincoln Cathedral.

Two of her paintings were selected for inclusion in The Prince of Wales Highgrove Florilegium, a collection of paintings by international artists, which portrays the plants in the garden of His Royal Highness at Highgrove House.

Recently her work has been selected for inclusion in The Transylvania Florilegium presently being created under the umbrella/aegis of The Princes School of Traditional Arts to record in a permanent way the flora of Transylvania.

Her work is held in the permanent collection at The Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Pittsburgh, USA and The Florilegium Archive at Sheffield Botanical Gardens. Sally exhibited eight paintings of Fritillaria at the RHS Shades of Autumn Show in October 2014 and was awarded Silver-Gilt Medal.
